Ios Greece is an island in the Cyclades of the Mediterranean sea. You find this island just north of Santorini. Its airport is also the fastest way of traveling to Ios since it does not have an airport of its own. Hence you can only come to Ios by boat. Most people fly to Athens or Santorini and then take the ferry to Ios. Some travelers go straight to this island after arriving in Greece while others go island hopping before they visit Ios.
If you plan to go island hopping, then I would recommend that you save Ios until the end since it has ruined the schedule of many travelers. It is hard to leave this island once you have set your foot here. Many tourists have come to Ios and only planned to stay for a couple of nights, but found them self staying here for the rest of their holiday.
Ios Greece is Truly a Magical Island
The beautiful white houses that make up the old town. The blue water of the Mediterranean Sea. The white sand of Mylopotas Beach, Manganari and all the other beaches scattered around Ios island. The nightlife that does not stop until the sun is already high in the sky. The friendly atmosphere with tourists from all over the world that come together on this amazing island.
This is the perfect holiday destination in Greece if you are of young age or young at heart. Seeking a good time both in the daytime at the beach and at night time in the bars and clubs of Ios town, called Chora by the locals and just The Village by the tourists.
Ios Greece is made up of hilly terrain so traveling by foot can be tough. Luckily you will find many beautifully beaches within walking distance from the Village, Chora. The village is also located close to the port where you arrive by ferry. There is a bus running frequently between the Port, the Village and Mylopotas Beach if you do not feel like walking the small distance up and down the steep hill. There are also daily buses to and from the lovely Manganari Beach on the south end of the island. Manganari is a long beach with beautifully white sand. It is not as overcrowded here as it is on Mylopotas since it is located far from the main village, approximately 25km. You also find some smaller beaches within walking distance from Manganari that are also worth visiting if you take your time to travel here while visiting Ios.
